It's Life Hack Day

The internet is alive with life hacks (originally a term used by computer programmers in need of ways to organize data, it has been stretched to describe little tips and tricks to make life easier, especially when the proper tools are not at hand). You may have seen many of these, since they have been circulating (and indeed, List 25 has included some of the same tips in multiple videos). A number of these are useful and some are questionable (that's just my opinion, not fact), goes:

Here, John Green of Mental Floss tests some of the most common life hacks in these two videos to discover which ones work and which don't.

Note: I love John Green, but he may not be the best person to test some of these. In the second video, the lettuce tip works with the right kind of lettuce and is widely used in restaurants. Plus, as someone noted in the comments, he could have made the cupcake/spaghetti tip work by breaking the spaghetti. Still, it was fun to watch him make the attempt and to find that some of these actually do the trick.

I hope you've found something useful here. Have a great day!

Nothing stood out in my mind to try, but they were certainly fun to watch!

I found one or two, but yes, mostly I just enjoyed watching (I especially appreciated John doing this so that I don't have to). And I kept thinking that the Doritos think would be useful...if the odds of me having Doritos with me when I needed a fire weren't so slim.

I don't eat Dorito's nor do I start fires (well ... my mind is going off in another direction, LOL).
I tried the egg yolk in the plastic bottle trick. The bottle indeed sucked up the yolk, but I made the mistake of sucking it up too much (no jokes please), and the yolk covered the entire inside of the bottle before the rest came back out. What a waste, and then I had a devil of a time cleaning the inside of the bottle before I could recycle it.

Laney4, your message cries out for a few jokes (sorry, couldn't resist). LOL Thank you for trying the egg yolk trick so that I don't have to (I just kept thinking that I could have had 10 eggs separated before I located an empty water bottle). Now that I know it's messy...well, I already create enough messes (see, I left myself open for a joke). :-)
