I found this idea on the Simply Notable blog (where the gift boxes from the other day were featured. Click through to Simply Notable to see how pretty they are. She also shows some coasters that are a mix of knitting, crochet and basic quilting). While I'm not totally certain that the image below shows the exact coasters, they're either the same ones or they're very close.

This is exactly the type of project I like (one that's attractive and can be made in a day).

They are a great idea. I think I'll make these my next project.
At present I'm knitting up kitchen wash cloths. I keep giving them away, so never seem to have any for myself.
Mary, I've never made kitchen wash cloths, but they sound like a great idea. Do you use worsted weight cotton or something less heavy?
My aunt crocheted four of these "coasters" for us years ago. They are green with white letters spelling out "NOEL", and they are glued on a red ribbon, complete with a "D" shaped brass ring at the top for hanging.
I confess to being a bit addicted to coasters. It's not that I'm so worried about my furniture, but I just love the variety of having lots of different types of cute or pretty coasters.
