Call Me Maybe in Afghanistan

If you thought you'd finally seen the end of the Carly Rae Jepsen Call Me Maybe videos...well, this one is a bit different, so I'm throwing it up here. The U.S. Army Infantry soldiers are based in Afghanistan.

  1. That was a lovely video. Thank you.

I am amazed at how many "new artists" (Carly Rae isn't exactly new, mind you) I am enjoying these days.

I was sitting with some teenage girls at a recent wedding, and one of them said her favorite group is One Direction. I said "Me too!" and she was flabbergasted that an oldster like me (53) could like a teenage group like that! I started talking about "One Thing" (their second hit) and she mentioned that there is a One Direction store in Toronto (that closes tomorrow, apparently). I thought I had read that awhile back, but it was nice that she was "up" on the info. I requested their first hit as she and her parents were leaving, and she doubted she'd hear it. I knew her parents well, though, and they hadn't made it out the door when the song came on (three songs later). The teenager ran up to me and asked (told) me to dance with her! Considering that she hadn't danced a single song that night, I was (and have remained) touched. The two of us and her father got up on the dance floor and belted out the words to "Makes You Beautiful" while bee-bopping to the music. It was wonderful and hopefully a memory the teenager keeps like I and her father will.

  2. I agree about how many new artists I'm enjoying. Now and then I run across someone who complains that there hasn't been any good music produced since (name whatever their generation's music happened to be). I think it's so sad when people get stuck in one time frame and close their minds to anything new. There's so much fun music out there now!
