I can remember learning about the canals being frozen when I was a girl. So they must have had some 'warm' years along the way until now.
I had forgotten that it could ice over. Duh!We have skating on our city's bay, although I've never ventured over to try it. (I doubt I could squeeze my (even slightly) swollen feet into skates anymore....) Hundreds of residents go way north to Ottawa, our nation's capital, and skate on the Rideau Canal instead. (Again, I've never tried it.) I HAVE, however, travelled over 2000 miles away to Edmonton, Alberta to skate in their indoor ice rink where the Edmonton Oilers practise! Okay, okay. I drove or flew to Calgary to visit my sister, and then we travelled with her family to Edmonton to the West Edmonton Mall, where we enjoyed the ice skating, as well as the monster wave pool an slides. Semantics....
I think it's awesome that the canals have frozen again after those warm years, but I'll probably never strap on a pair of skates again. I was never an exceptional skater and time hasn't improved my skills.
